A Heavy Heart

I just got one of those calls that you dread getting. One of my really good friends that I've known since we made First Communion together lost her father today. He's had MS since I've known her and was in a wheelchair when we were in high school. He was in really bad shape (pretty much on his deathbed) about a month ago and then when I saw her just a couple weeks ago she said that he was actually doing much better and even his doctors were surprised and pleased with his improvement. My friend had been preparing herself for his passing a month ago and then she got that false hope when he started to improve. I haven't gotten a chance to talk to her since her mom called to let me and my mother know. I can't imagine losing a parent at my age. And my friend has had everything thrown at her in life. She was diagnosed with cancer of the salivary glands in December and had an operation to remove the tumor. Now as she's finally getting back to 100% from that she has to bury a parent. This is when I start to question my faith because this girl is truly the most giving and caring individual I have met and she's had a challenging life. It makes me wonder about what God is doing, why does someone with such a pure and benevolent heart have so much pain to endure?

I know that a lot of TNOFers read this and a few of you know Kristen from high school and when I've moved or had parties. I don't know the details of the funeral yet but I'll post them when I know if you'd like to go and pay your respects. Her mom said it will most likely be this weekend.

I'll have to say I Love You in a song

I was thinking today about the fact that Beckie's birthday is a month away. So I started to think about possible presents that I could get her and then this song came on the radio and I think I should use the lyrics somehow in my present to Beckie. It's titled "When I See You Smile" by Bad English. Here are the lyrics;

Sometimes I wonderIf I'd ever make it through
Through this world without having you
I just wouldn't have a clue
Cause sometimes it seems
Like this world's closing in on me
And there's no way of breaking free
And then I see you reach for me
Sometimes I wanna give up
Wanna give in
I wanna quit the fight
And then I see you baby
And everything's alright
Everything's alright
When I see you smile
I can face the world
Oh you know I can do anything
When I see you smile
I see a ray of light
Oh I see it shining right through the rain
When I see you smile
Baby when I see you smile at me
Oh yeah
Baby there's nothing in this world that could ever do
What the touch of your hand can do
It's like nothing that I ever knew
Hey
And when the rain is falling
I don't feel it
Cause you're here with me now
I wanna ask you baby
It's all I¹ll ever need
All I'll ever need
When I see you smile
I can face the world
Oh you know I can do anything
When I see you smile
I see a ray of light
Oh I see it shining right through the rain
When I see you smile baby
Baby when I see you smile at me
Sometimes I wanna give up
I wanna give inI wanna quit the fight
Then one look at you baby
And everything's alright
Hey everything's alright
It's alright
When I see you smile
I can face the world
Oh you know I can do anything
When I see you smile
I see a ray of light
Oh I see it shining right through the rain
Yeah
When I see you smile
Yeah I can face the world
Oh you know I can do anything now
When I see you smile
Oh yeah
Baby when I see you smile
Smile at me

The Easy Way to Find Mr. Right

Superstition:
Think of five or six names of boys or girls you might marry, As you twist the stem of an apple, recite the names until the stem comes off. You will marry the person whose name you were saying when the stem fell off.

These are the six names that I'll be reciting:
Michael Vartan
Seth Green
Cillian Murphy
Topher Grace
Ryan Reynolds
Ivan Sergei

And the reason that I'll be a single, crazy cat lady for the rest of my life:
If you make a bedspread, or a quilt, be sure to finish it or marriage will never come to you.

Remember when I was making that quilt out of old underwear? I never finished it cause I did't really know how to quilt. How was I supposed to know that me getting married or not would depned on it? I don't know if I even brought it when I moved in with Trish the Dish! Woe is me...I'm going to be alone for the rest of my life.

Now here's one that doesn't make sense to me:
If you get a chill up your back or goosebumps, it means that someone is walking over your grave.

Okay, if you get a chill or goosebumps cause someone is walking over your grave then maybe you should try calling out to them cause obviously you're still alive and trapped in a frickin' coffin underground!

The Fun Never Stops at House of B

I'm staying in tonight to work on my portfolio. That's my plan at least. But I'm mostly surfing the internet for interesting and fun sites. And look what I found.

Interesting (or gross?) fact:
The first-known contraceptive was crocodile dung, used by Egyptians in 2000 BC.

The Goonies is on too so I'm watching that while I surf. Oh, AND one of my absolute favorite movies is on, "Cats and Dogs".

I'm really not looking forward to writing up my case study. That's going to be a lot of work.

Interesting fact:
The shortest war on record was fought between Zanzibar and England in 1896. Zanzibar surrendered after 38 minutes.

You can't fight if you're from a place called Zanzibar. The name is just too cool and reminiscent of partying and lounging by the pool. Oh wait, I'm thinking of a sandbar. It's still a totally cool name.

Sad:
The very first bomb dropped by the Allies on Berlin during World War II killed the only elephant in the Berlin Zoo.

Michigan shout-out:
Grand Rapids, Michigan was the 1st US city to fluoridate its water in 1945.

I'm sure I'll have more in an hour or so.

Miss B Knows Best

On my last day of student teaching I gave my students a quiz. I know, I know, I'm a terrible, mean, cruel and heartless teacher to give the students a quiz the day before vacation, blah, blah, blah. They tried to tell me the same thing. But I totally reviewed for it and practically gave them the answers during the review. Then I told them not to do the final section of the quiz. And THEN I gave them 3 super-easy extra credit questions. One of the extra credit questions was, "Quel est le nom de mon chat?" (What is the name of my cat?) I've discussed in previous posts how I talk about Raffi at some point during almost every class AND his name was on a poster in front of the classroom. So that was pretty much a free point! After the quiz the students were asking if they had to spell Raffi right and I told them I wouldn't count spelling errors against them for that question. And then one girl goes, "So, if I spelled Raffi like Fou-Fou, you wouldn't mark that wrong, right?"

Yeah, I'd like to see her call Raffi Fou-Fou to his face and live to tell about it.

P.S. I thought that she was kidding until I graded the tests. She really put Fou-Fou down. I almost gave her the point for making me laugh.

Easter Merriment

I babysat for my little sister last night. We went to see "She's the Man" which was actually really hilarious and quite entertaining. Sarah got bored halfway through and wanted to go home but I refused to leave since I was enjoying the movie so much. At one point she was complaining that her throat hurt and I figured she was just trying to get me to leave so I told her to suck it up. When we got home later her voice did actually sound raspy so I think she might have been telling the truth. But at the end of the movie she said that she thought the movie was great and was glad that she had stayed. Perhaps this will show her that she should always listen to her big sister cause I know what's best. When we got home from the movie she wanted to watch some Japanese anime type movie about a princess named Nausicated or something. This was her selling point to me, "Sissy, the movie has a lot of violence and I know that you like violence." I explained that while I do like violence, I don't usually like Japanese anime. We ended up watching the movie anyways and it was not nearly violent and gory enough for my taste.

Today we had Easter Dinner at Joeboo and my stepmom's place. My brother and Sil did not attend. At one point we were talking about bisexuality and my father goes, "Am I wrong in thinking that if you sleep with someone of the same sex and then sleep with someone of the opposite sex that makes you bisexual?" And so I replied, "Well, if it's just a one time thing then that's not bisexuality, that's just college." At that point my father mumbled something about checking on the lamb and left the table.

Merde!

I tried to write a post about not finding my copy of Labyrinth and my computer went all screwy. I'm already frustrated cause I can't find the frickin' video and I really don't need the extra frustration of my stupid internet connection.

Exile

I think my room is about 12'x10'. My own little world. With an ornery cat. And a meddlesome mother.

I keep trying to explain to my family how life is meaningless cause we all do the same thing over and over agian for generation after generation and they keep looking at me like I'm crazy. Like I'm crazy.

I like eating bunny rabbits. They're yummy.

I'm predicting a 97% chance that I won't sing in the shower tomorrow morning.

Hibbidy Jibbidy

Four days of student teaching left. I'm trying to figure out what to do with my German students for class tomorrow. They have their chapter exam which will take about half the class but that still leaves 45 minutes of class and I can't start the new chapter cause they're going on vacation at the end of the week. I should just have them write sonnets about me. Or I could talk about Raffi for an hour. My French students have discovered that if you ask me about my cat, I can be easily distracted from the topic at hand for 10-20 minutes.

Trish the Dish and I are going to Orlando for the first week of May. We wanted to go to Europe but couldn't find any cheap flights. So we figured Disneyland would work. Maybe I'll get to meet the Evil Stepmother and tell her that she has great breasts just like my little sister did when she met her.

Stop and Smell the Perfume Spill

I was getting dressed after my shower this morning when I stepped on a small perfume bottle and broke it. Oh, and cut my foot from the glass. It was one of those little sample ones and was cylindrically shaped so it just happened to roll off my dresser and was lying in wait for my foot. The funny thing is that I was walking over to my dresser to get socks. So, now my foot is bleeding but it smells really good.
